The First Thing They See
Skin is the first thing people notice. It’s what we live in, what we touch, what touches us. And for me, skin has always been a place of tension — both a shield and something that left me exposed.
Growing up, I didn’t always feel safe in my skin. I covered up, not because I didn’t like how I looked, but because I feared how others would see me. My third breast wasn’t just a physical difference — it made me feel vulnerable, like I needed to hide in plain sight.
But over time, I’ve realized that my skin is more than what people see. It’s a part of how I connect with myself and with others. It holds memories. It holds love. It holds truth.
Learning to Touch Without Fear
For a while, touch felt complicated. Even basic things — putting lotion on my chest, taking selfies, receiving hugs — brought up discomfort. I was aware of every inch of skin, and how much of it felt “wrong.”
But slowly, I started to change that. I began caring for my body with kindness, not criticism. I created rituals — oils after the shower, soft clothes that feel like a hug, laying in the sun with my eyes closed and my chest uncovered.
Each act reminded me: this is my body. This is my home.
Skin as a Language of Intimacy
Intimacy isn’t always about someone else. It starts with me. How I let myself be seen. How I allow myself to feel.
My skin taught me that intimacy is presence. It’s not just about sensuality — it’s about honesty. Letting someone see your skin without hiding what’s underneath. Letting yourself feel without explaining why.
Now, I don’t rush to cover up. I don’t flinch when someone gets close. I live in my skin. Fully. And that’s a kind of intimacy I never knew I could have.
A Final Thought
There’s nothing shameful about being different. There’s nothing strange about loving the skin you’re in — even when the world tries to make you question it. My skin has taught me to be tender, bold, and unafraid.
